Sports Day 2023

Well done to all of our children for making our sports day so successful.

A big thank you to Mr Macgregor and Mr Stewart Tilling for organising and taking these super photographs.

Athletics SSP Gateshead Festival

What a fantastic day at Gateshead stadium! The students from year 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed in field and track events. 49 schools from Gateshead took part, so the competition was fierce. All students represented the school brilliantly and even brought home the following medals:

  • Gold - Yr 5/6 50M Sprint - Boys
  • Gold - Yr 5/6 Howler throw - Girls
  • Gold - Yr 5/6 Howler throw - Boys

We are incredibly proud of all our exceptional athletes!

2022/23 Football

- Mixed football- Our mixed football team have done fantastically well this year. They finished 3rd in the Ryton League and moved into the Bladon shield competition for similar finishing schools in local areas. We also finished 3rd in the Blaydon shield, narrowly missing out on a medal once again. We will build on this year's successes in the coming years.

- Girls Football- The girls football has been a great success this year with lots of engagement and enthusiasm. The girls did amazingly well to go through the first round of the Bishop's Cup but eventually were knocked out in Round 2. They have been a great team with a passion and determination to match anyone. We will build on these achievements in the coming years.

2022 Sport Day

The weather let us down but the determination and team spirit did not.

A brilliant opportunity to witness sporting talents and development of PE skills.

Gateshead SSP Mini Basketball tournament and Indoor Athletics Festival

We had a busy week (2nd & 3rd February) as we had two afterschool competitions. Year 1 & 2 competed at the Indoor Athletics Festival which they thoroughly enjoyed and Year 3 & 4 took part in the Mini Basketball tournament. Although we didn't make the finals the children were over the moon to take part.

Gateshead SSP Winter Runderland Challenge

Gateshead SSP set all classes the challenge to earn more carrots for Santa's reindeer to help get them fit and healthy for Christmas. The children had a series of challenges to complete in the run up to Christmas . The children really enjoyed participating in this.

Tag Rugby Tournament 2021

After a tough couple of years not being able to compete against other schools (other than virtually) we really enjoyed participating in the Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Tournament.

After coming second in our round, we went on to win Gold at the finals on 21st October at Blaydon Rugby Club, winning out of 39 competing schools.

Little Kickers - Reception

The children in Reception develop their Gross Motor skills every week through Little Kickers sessions with Coach Connor. They learn to develop their strength, balance and coordination and negotiate space and obstacles safely.

Sports Day 2021 - Key Stage 2

What a fantastic afternoon! Great teamwork in our competitive sports.

Sport's Day - REC, Year 1 & Year 2

A fantastic morning for our sporting super stars!

Thank you Mrs Woods for Bob the ice-cream man.  They were delicious!

Bikeability 2021

Over the previous 6 weeks, year 5 have been participating in Bikeability Training. They had a quick skills test on our yard and then they were off around Crawcrook, maneuvering the streets safely.

Newcastle Foundation 2020-2021

September 2020 saw the introduction of the NUFC Foundation coming into school weekly to coach all of our children and upskill our staff. Every half term the skills taught in the PE change in line with the National Curriculum. These include gymnastics, cricket, dance, rugby, problem-solving, striking and fielding, and many more.  We have had Coach Dave for the whole of the year and he has been a fantastic addition to our PE lessons - the children love him.

Gateshead SSP - Winter Runderland

With all of the restrictions in place due to Covid, our inter and intra sports competitions have been put on hold. We did however manage to participate in some 'bubble' competitions and completed the Winter Runderland, a month-long competition to get Rudolph and his reindeer's home in time for Christmas. The children really enjoyed taking part.

All Stars Cricket Training

For the past 6 weeks years 1, 2, 3, and 4 have been gaining some fantastic new cricket skills thanks to Coach Phil and All Stars Cricket Training.  The children have really enjoyed it and have greatly improved their ability in cricket. Some of our pupils have already joined the local cricket team - Ryton Cricket Club.

Commando Joes Training

Staff thoroughly enjoyed being trained in Commando Joe's character-building PE programme - all ready to implement it in the next academic year. This scheme has some fantastic planning and resources which will assist in improving our children's problem solving, communication, teamwork and agility skills.

Inter School Competition - St Thomas More Cluster

Even though Covid has well and truly spoilt our competitive sports this last 18 months, we managed to participate in our first inter school's competitions  - albeit virtually.

Year 1 & 2 competed a Quad Skills event

Year 3 & 4 competed in a Ball Skills event

Year 5 & 6 competed in a Speed, Agility and Quickness event.
